Frequently asked questions
The compass is pointing in the wrong direction. What should I do?
The compass relies on your iPhone's built-in magnetometer, which can be disturbed by magnets, metal objects, car dashboards, and electronic devices. Try the following:
- Hold the phone flat (parallel to the ground) and away from keys, laptops, speakers, and cases with magnets.
- Move the phone in a figure-8 motion for a few seconds — this is Apple's standard compass recalibration gesture.
- Step outside or near a window for a better GPS fix and magnetic reading.
- Open the built-in Apple Compass app; if it's also off, the issue is with your environment, not with Qiblati.
The app says "Location unavailable" or the distance shows a strange value.
Qiblati needs either your GPS location or a manually selected city.
- Check iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. Make sure Location Services is on and that Qiblati is set to "While Using the App".
- If you prefer not to share GPS, open the app, go to Settings → Location, and pick your city manually.
- If you are indoors, try near a window for a faster GPS fix.
I purchased "Remove Ads" but I still see the banner.
Try these steps in order:
- Open the app, go to Settings → Restore Purchases.
- Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID you used for the purchase (iOS Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases).
- Force-quit the app (swipe up from the bottom and swipe the Qiblati card away) and relaunch.
- If the issue persists, email us at the address below with your Apple ID email and we will help.
How does Qiblati calculate the Qibla direction?
Qiblati uses your device's location and computes the great-circle bearing (the shortest path along the Earth's curvature) from your position to the coordinates of the Holy Kaaba in Mecca: 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E. This is the Qibla direction accepted by the majority of Islamic scholars. All calculations run locally on your device — no internet connection is required once your location is known.
Does Qiblati work outside my home country?
Yes. Qiblati works anywhere in the world where your device has a valid location (GPS or a manually selected city). The compass and distance will update accordingly.
Does the Apple Watch app work standalone?
The Apple Watch companion shows the live compass based on the Watch's own sensors. A paired iPhone is generally recommended for the best location fix, but the Watch will use its own GPS when available.
Do you collect my data?
No personal data leaves your device. Your location is used only to calculate the Qibla direction on-device. For the full breakdown, see our Privacy Policy.
How do I change the app's language?
Open the app and go to Settings → Language, or change the system language in iOS Settings → General → Language & Region. Qiblati supports English, Turkish, and Arabic.
