How do I add a new appliance (fridge or freezer)?
On the home screen, tap the + button in the top-right. Pick the type (Refrigerator or Freezer), give it a name, choose an icon and color, then tap Save.
How do I add a new drawer or shelf to an appliance?
From the home screen, tap an appliance card to open it. In the top-right corner you'll see a ⋯ menu button — tap it and choose Add drawer. You can name the drawer, pick an icon, and choose a color.
If the appliance currently has zero drawers, there's also a big Add drawer button shown in the empty-state view.
How do I rename or delete a drawer or shelf?
Long-press the drawer card you want to change. A context menu appears with Edit and Delete. Editing lets you change the drawer's name, icon, and color. Deleting will also remove every item stored inside that drawer — Refro will ask you to confirm first.
How do I add an item to a drawer?
Tap an appliance, then tap the drawer you want. At the bottom of the drawer screen there is a large Add New Item button. Type a name, optionally a quantity (e.g. "500 g", "2 packs"), and optionally attach a photo from the camera or your photo library. Tap Add to Drawer.
What do the green / yellow / orange / red dots next to my items mean?
Refro automatically tracks how long each item has been in storage and colors the badge accordingly:
- Green = Fresh
- Yellow = Check soon
- Orange = Old
- Red = Very old
The thresholds are different for refrigerators (days) and freezers (months) — so a 5-day-old yogurt in the fridge is still "Fresh", but a 5-day-old plate of leftovers gets the "Check soon" badge.
Common questions
I purchased "Remove Ads" but I still see the banner.
Try these steps in order:
- Open the app, tap the gear icon (top-left) to open Settings, scroll to the Support Refro section and tap Restore Purchases.
- Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID you used for the purchase (iOS Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases).
- Force-quit the app (swipe up from the bottom of the screen and swipe the Refro card away) and relaunch it.
- If the issue persists, email us at the address below with your Apple ID email and we will help.
Will my data sync between my iPhone and iPad?
Not in version 1.0. Refro currently stores everything on the device you added it on — no iCloud sync. If you delete the app on a device, the data on that device is removed. We are considering adding optional iCloud sync in a future update.
I uninstalled Refro by accident. Are my items gone?
Yes. Because Refro keeps everything on-device with no server-side backup, uninstalling permanently removes the data on that device. We recommend re-installing carefully if you have a long history of items.
Why does Refro ask for camera and photo library access?
Only to let you attach a photo to an item (so you can see at a glance what's in a sealed container, for example). Photos are saved only inside the app on your device. They are never uploaded, shared, or analyzed. You can decline both permissions and the rest of the app will continue to work — only the photo feature will be disabled.
How do I change the app's language?
Refro follows your iOS system language. To change it, go to iOS Settings → General → Language & Region, or iOS Settings → Refro → Language if you want to set the app's language independently of the system. Refro currently supports English and Turkish.
Do you collect my data?
No personal data leaves your device. Your items, photos, and appliance layout are stored only on your iPhone or iPad. The only outbound network traffic is from the Google AdMob banner and the StoreKit purchase flow. For the full breakdown, see our Privacy Policy.
Does Refro support iPad?
Yes. Refro is a universal iOS app and runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. The interface adapts to the larger screen on iPad.
